The sideless gown originated from the sleeveless dresses of the 13th century and was worn predominantly in the 14th and 15th century. Velvet also came to central Europe in this period, therefore sideless gowns in velvet are also authentic. As an undergarment it was custom to wear a tightly fitting dress (GF6).
