~ The Houppelande ~ The houppelande was worn in the 14th and 15th century. A houppelande is a surcot which is open in the front with long bag sleeves which were decorated richly, and often also dagged. It is closed with a belt. Underneath an undergarment was worn (GF1or GF6, for men: GM 3). The houppelande was worn by both: men and women. The men's collars were often closed higher up than those of the women.
